GOSSIP:
  • Hates the movie term blaxploitation which she has been associated with throughout her movie career.
  • There are many words that can be used to describe Pam Grier — and she wants funny to be one of them.
  • The part of Jackie Brown was written specifically for her. When Quentin Tarantino first read the book Rum Punch, on which the movie is based, he missed the part in which Jackie Brown was described as a white woman. He only realized the error when adapting the screenplay and reviewing the book. (JACKIE BROWN (1997)).
  • When Jackie Brown, played by Grier, is being locked in prison, the song Longtime Woman plays. This song was performed by THE GRIER FOR BIG DOLL HOUSE (1979), and plays when the main character in that film is being locked in prison.
  • Sometimes Credited As: Pamela Grier
  • Was diagnosed with cancer in 1988 and was given 18 months to live.
  • Never married because she wasn't sure how long she would live with her cancer.
  • Her sister was also diagnosed with cancer and succumbed to the disease in 1990.
  • Jackie Brown marked a big comeback for Pam. She was nominated for a Golden Globe and a NAACP Image award for her performance.
  • Auditioned for a part in PULP FICTION (1994), and at the time, right after Rosanna Arquette took the nod, Grier was considered for the part of Bonnie (Jimmie's wife). She didn't land either role, until JACKIE BROWN (1997) came along. Quentin Tarantino renamed the character of Jackie Burke (from Rum Punch) to Jackie Brown as homage to FOXY BROWN (1974).
  • While a student at UCLA, she sang back-up for singer-composer Bobby Womack. Interestingly, Womack's composition and 1972 recording of the song Across 110th Street was the theme song of the film Jackie Brown (1997), which marked a major comeback for Grier in the starring and title role. She was nominated for a Golden Globe and an NAACP Image Award for her performance.
  • Was the first Black woman to appear on the cover of MS.
  • Named as one of Ebony Magazine's 100 Most Fascinating Women of the 20th Century.
  • Her early films such as WOMEN IN CAGES (1972) and THE BIG DOLL HOUSE (1972) were filmed in the Phillipines. While there she contracted a deadly tropical disease and nearly died. She lost her hair and was temporarily blind for almost a month. It took nearly a year for her to recover.
  • Nominated for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program at Daytime Emmy Awards for Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child (2000)
