GOSSIP:
  • Says he is longing to star in a sequel to his hit 1988 comedy BEETLEJUICE. (January 4, 2005)
  • Although not related to Diane Keaton, he changed his last name to Keaton because he couldn't use the name Michael Douglas, and he liked the sound of her last name (according to Diane Keaton ... of course, Keaton isn't her last name either).
  • His hobbies are fly-fishing and riding horses at his California ranch.
  • His name did not come from his middle name. When he realized he needed to change his name, he had seen an article with a nice picture of Diane Keaton. He chose Keaton with the intention of changing it later. However, the name stuck and was eventually legally changed. Years later, he phoned Diane Keaton and thanked her. The two have never actually met.
  • Tim Burton cast Keaton as Batman because he was the only actor Burton thought could believably portray someone who has the kind of darkly obsessive personality that the character has. There was a great deal of comic fan anger over his selection, forcing the studio to release an advance trailer both to show that Keaton could do the role well and that the movie would not be a campy parody like the TV show.
  • Adam West (the star of the TV series) wanted to play Batman BATMAN (1989), but Keaton was given the role after getting the nod from Bob Kane, the creator of the original Batman comic strip.
  • Originally cast in the lead role in THE PURPLE ROSE OF CAIRO (1985), and footage was shot. Director Woody Allen decided it wasn't working, and replaced Keaton with Jeff Daniels.
  • Ray Nicolette, the ATF man, played by Keaton in JACKIE BROWN (1997), is the same character he played in OUT OF SIGHT (1998).
  • DESPERATE MEASURES (1998): The article Inside the Mind of a Sociopath that the Captain reads during the trip to the prison is written by him.
  • When Keaton got the lead role in BATMAN (1989), fans cried bloody murder and some even threatened to boycott BATMAN merchandise. Years later, fans screamed bloody murder when Keaton left and was replaced by Val Kilmer.
  • Spent only two weeks filming his part in BEETLEJUICE (1988). He only appears in 17.5 minutes of the films entire 92 minute running time.
  • He turned down the role of Doc in THE GETAWAY
  • Was offered 35 million for BATMAN 3
  • Loves riding horses and hates watches
  • Was nominated MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss in 1993 for BATMAN RETURNS (shared with Michelle Pfeiffer)
