GOSSIP:
|
- Has been added to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Britain's definitive record of the great and the good. (January 5, 2005)
- The Gibson SG electric guitar he played from 1966-1969 was sold for $567,500, topping the bill at what auction house Christie's said was its biggest ever sale of show business memorabilia. (2004)
- One of the most important collections of Beatles memorabilia and tapes marked ``Abbey Road -- not for release'' has been found by a British holidaymaker in a suitcase bought at a flea-market in Australia. Fans have been searching for the collection for 30 years. (July 14, 2004)
- The state Health Department reprimanded a cancer specialist for talking to the media about his patient George Harrison without his consent. (December 3, 2003)
- His first guitar that he called “real cheapo sold at auction for more than $469,200. (November 22, 2003)
- Is among seven 2004 inductees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. (November 21, 2003)
- A guitar played by the late George Harrison during the Beatles' last public performance was sold for $434,750 in a public auction. (September 15, 2003)
- Harrison left more than $153 million in his will; it has emerged as Sir Paul McCartney prepared for a tribute concert for his former colleague -- the High Court officials, who administered the will, would not confirm local media reports that the money would be split between Harrison's wife Olivia, family members and charities. (November 30, 2002)
- After years of being eclipsed by the brilliant genius of John and Paul, of having to fight for every song he wrote that was included on an album, superstars such as Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan treated George as an equal.
- At Friar Park, George discovered another passion: gardening. It's not unusual for George to be hip-deep in fertilizer tending to his beloved gardens.
- Because he released no solo albums during the 90s, fans have the false impression that, except for the Beatles' Anthology, George was not active professionally. Not true! As he had since the Beatles were still together, George continued to work with many artists. All in all, George has produced and performed on more non-solo albums than any other Beatle. Between 1990 and 1999, George was involved with over two dozen albums and singles.
- George met 19-year-old model, Patricia Anne Boyd. Though she initially rejected him, eventually they start dating. Just before Christmas of 1965, Patti accepted George's proposal of marriage, and they married on January 21, 1966.
- Survived a knife attack and three occurrences of cancer
- His George's autobiography, I Me Mine, was published on August 22, 1979, first as a leather-bound collector's edition, and later as a mass market hardcover. George dedicated it to gardeners everywhere. Though not especially informative, George's conversational manner and Derek Taylor's side notes make I Me Mine a delightful read. George's commentaries on every song he composed up through 1978 make it must reading for all George fans.
- His early life was untouched by death, grave illness or major family discord. What the Harrisons didn't have in money and possessions, they more than made up for in love.
